Recognizing the value of geriatric
care management, Elder Options, Inc. was established by Carol
S. Heape, MSW, CMC, Executive Director in 1988. The home care component
was developed shortly thereafter to complement care management in meeting
the needs of older adults and their families who were determined to
remain at home.
Services and staff have grown and include credentialed experts in social
work, nursing, mental health and gerontology with two locations serving
northern California and northern Nevada. Professional care management
is also available within the Sacramento Region and northern Nevada from
the offices below.

Ms. B lives alone after her husband's death. Her children want her
to move into an assisted living facility near them. She wants to stay
in her own home with friends close by. What's the solution? |
| An Elder Options'
care manager recommends a family meeting either at Ms. B's home or
at the Elder Options' office to talk about everyone's concerns. With
the outside professional's help the family and Ms. B are able to discuss
worries and wishes and come to a compromise that is acceptable to
all. The care manager gives knowledgeable recommendations to support
the decision explaining costs, availability, and community resources. |
|
Mr. T's adult children
live close by and visit when they can. He needs help with cooking,
laundry and transportation. He gets lonesome and depressed when
he's alone.
|
 |
| After talking with the daughter,
an Elder Options' care manager sets up a home visit to meet Mr. T.
and his daughter at his home. During the visit the care manager completes
a professional assessment of what Mr. T's needs are. A decision is
made to utilize a provider employee from Elder Options a few hours
each day to help Mr. T. remain independent. The care manager will
monitor the arrangement and make monitoring home visits to assure
client safety, satisfaction, as well as emerging health issues. |

Our employees are the best! They are trained to be your right hand person
when you can't be there. We know that being helpful and caring is a profession.
Our in-home providers are professional, trained, and dependable. Regular training

issues, dementia/Alzheimers disease, emergency preparedness and other
important topics. They have experience as CNAs, HHAs and related fields. As
the employer, Elder Options, Inc. pays all workers' compensation, payroll
taxes, professional and general liability insurance.
Before we hire any home care provider, Elder Options conducts a thorough
investigation including:
-
Background investigation
-
Written application requiring
personal and work related references.
-
Copy of picture identification.
-
Recent DMV printout.
-
Proof of current automobile insurance
coverage
-
Face to face interview
-
New hire orientation
-
Annual documentation of TB test
-
First Aid/CPR certification -
strongly recommended.
All home care providers are regularly monitored by geriatric care managers for
quality assurance, skill level, and client satisfaction.
| We firmly believe that a good match
of the home care provider(s) with the client(s) they care for is a vital
key in assuring the greatest degree of success. |
